How do you make the past tense?

You add ed to the end of the verb in main form.

Example: I fixed my stereo yesterday.

The verb to be is irregular: 

 These are things already in past tense:

yesterday

last week

2 week ago

last year/night

yesterday evening/morning

Spelling rule:

Spelling of -ed verbs:

Rule 1. end of verb ; a consonant+e add d

Example : dance=danced  smile=smiled  die=died

Rule 2. one vowel+one consonant -> double the consonant add- ed

Example : stop=stopped  hop=hopped

Rule 3. consonant + y change -y to -i

Example: study=studied  enjoy=enjoied  hurry=hurried

Rule 4. vowel +y add -ed, do not change -y to -i

Example: play=played
